The authors of Models: 002 - Antonio Buccella

continued research of the authors of the Eagle 3D models in Google Earth, we return to Buccella Antonello.

Antonello We achieved through 3D Warehouse , and we posed some questions.

Question: How did you decide to start with 3D modeling?

Answer: I started using three-dimensional modeling, so deepened in 2007 with AutoCAD, but I knew other programs 3D modeling for many years. So, take my work for the project was Barnaby immediate and spontaneous. I hit 'the very phrase "as we do?". . . how could I make a small contribution to my city? At that moment I understood and felt that I had the ' obligation to participate in that project.

Personally, I believe much in what we're doing, L'Aquila is in a situation nothing short of sad and dramatic. . . then Google is giving us the ' opportunity to let the world know the reality of this city apart two years after the earthquake, (do not forget that this is the time for the real purpose of this initiative).

Question: What studies have you done?

Answer: Regarding my studies, I can sum to have achieved diploma (Art Institute of Aquila), and then on a street say purely "artistic" with courses in commercial art, design internal and have always done the work concerning the design and technical graphics.

Question: 3D is your main occupation, or is it just a hobby?

Answer: I currently work in Rome in an architectural firm for the past twelve years . So how do you know, SketchUp is for me a hobby that gradually plan but is showing me all his considerable potential. . .

Question: What are the (your) steps in the modeling of a building with BuildingMaker (ie, 'where to start: from the roof or from the main body)?

Answer: BuildingMaker, I know little, I participated in the "course" on Jan. 22, but I confess that I much prefer SketchUp. It gives you a way to build and understand the structures as they were actually executed, and outside and interior, as I have experienced in the model of the Oratory of S. Bominaco Pellegrino, and also allows you to fine tune the picture to get a truly realistic. . . However, I recognize that BM gives ability to create models and light in no time. But I think that inevitably has limitations, for example in the models I realized, perhaps the various details would be very difficult to pull out with a program like that. . . I talk to you anyway without knowing the true potential of BM

thank Antonello Buccella for his willingness to his commitment and his exceptional results.

This is a KML in Google Earth lets you fly around a model of Antonello. Enjoy.

The authors of Models: 001 - Kiko Suarez Lopez

The website "How do we do?" Barnaby Gunnings, which organizes and coordinates the work of building the 3D model of the Eagle, you can now see the new buildings included.

Going to seek the authors' names, we discover that they are scattered around the world and find some of them that stand for the number of models available. For example, English Kico Lopez Suarez arrived at is 345 models.

Some of these models is detailed, so that it can not still be displayed in Google Earth, but only through SketchUp.

Kico Lopez Suarez has a personal blog, called "Digital Work" , which documents the evolution of his work in digital 3D.
We plan to do a round of interviews with these authors, to know something more about their history and how art came to be "designers of the city."

L ' Aquila in 3D - Over 400 buildings completed so far

In this picture, written by Google, you can see the progress of the buildings built by the users, until now, the 3D model of the city 's Aquila. This is more than 400 buildings, most of the perimeter area of \u200b\u200bthe city. The goal now is to complete the central area in a short time.

Building Maker: 3D model of Venice

For those who still had not seen, we must point out that this is the model in Google Earth 3D Venice. What I do not know is that this amazing work was created, more than a year ago, volunteers distributed around the world who have lent their works for free, using the Building Maker.

Entering Building Maker, we can see the list of cities in the archive with regard to Italy. For now it is Florence, Milan, Venice, that have been completed, and L'Aquila, which is work in progress.

The pictures below show, surrounded by a white line, the areas covered by aerial photos "slanting" of the four Italian cities.

Florence

Milan

Venice

L'Aquila (the blue dots are the buildings made to date, February 13, 2011 - compare them with those of a month ago )

But how does the process of an entire city? As you may be able, within a reasonable timeframe and with minimal expense by Google, to carry out the photogrammetric survey of areas so extensive and complex, allowing users to volunteer to work on the net?
The mechanism that Google engineers have built incredible, it consists of several components that now describe. The first component is
Building Maker, we have already seen in other posts of this blog. It allows you to view aerial photos "slanting" of the building selected, so that inserting overlay these photos predefined objects such as boxes, solid extrusion, pyramids and other objects, all with mutual links, that is "stuck" and stacked or side by side, they can best describe the building as possible, at a certain level of detail.

summits designed the building are "bound" by the user to the corresponding items of the photos, and finally, a complex algorithm on the server deals with Google to resolve the calculations of return perspective and re-projecting Photos on the model, so it can be viewed on Google Earth.

The second component of the process is 3D Warehouse, which is the repository of the models created by all Google users. This is the store where they end up, organized and searchable, all the works of three-dimensional composition of all users, from the hammer to the cabinet, the human character of the car, the architectural design of the bottle.

All that can be modeled in 3D can be incorporated into the 3D Warehouse, because it is secure and available to everyone.

The third component of the process is Google SketchUp. As we know, this is an exceptionally intuitive 3D modeling program, which Google provides for free.

Using SketchUp The building model created automatically and placed in Maker Building 3D Warehouse, can be modified to add details and details, being able to add windows, chimneys, dormers and other objects are difficult to create Building Maker. The level of detail can also go to the definition of gutters or rails, but we must keep in mind that you should weigh the model, because it can be represented in Google Earth.

Building Maker is the limit in the availability of aerial images "oblique." To try to overcome this problem, Google has set up a web page to request inclusion of a city of your choice list of those available for Building Maker.

Once you have entered a request, it is voted on by users, and when you reach a certain threshold level of criticism, Google may take into consideration the fact that a plane take off and take pictures. This is what happened to L'Aquila.

Churches of the Eagle: photorealistic models

These are some of the churches of the Eagle, taken from the 3D model to Google Earth, for now .

The most 'are certainly impressive 'other than those that show the damage from the earthquake, made with a technique that brings to mind the laser measurements, but we think is rather the result of a craftsman of great skill and design which we would like to report .
The last of these models, S. Mary of torque, is' very complex and, for now, not 'yet been included directly in the Buildings layer of Google Earth to view, and' must select between those SketchUp 3D Warehouse KMZ formats . His view in Google Earth shows some effort, but the wait is worth watching.
